VPC to VMWare – Mouse Problem Fix

If you are like me and enjoy working on VMWare instead of Virtual Server for your virtual machines.   This information is very useful if you need to convert any VPC to VMWare machines.

When converting a VPC to VMWare machine, you need to remove the VPC Additions before you convert accross otherwise you will have trouble with the mouse after you install the VMWare Tools.

If you don’t want to have to reconvert your machine, simply remove the old mouse driver from the mouse device class as described below :

  1. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  2. Then remove the value msvmmouf from the UpperFilters Regvalue, then reboot.

Alternatively, just install Windows 2008 and use Hyper-V :)
